Essential Tools For SEO on a Budget
While the social, real-time Web is hogging all the buzz as of lately, it's still important to keep an eye on good old fashioned search engine optimization for your company's site. SEO can be an expensive endeavor, especially if you hire an expert, but it doesn't have to be.

Analyze your site
First, you'll need to know what your existing site's strengths and weaknesses are. What better way to analyze your site than through the eyes of the world's biggest search engine? Google's free and easy-to-install Webmaster Tools will crawl your site and give you the data you need to analyze which queries and keywords are bringing people to your site, where your inbound links are coming from, and internal links within your site.
Any issues with your site will be found under the "Diagnostics" tab, which informs you of any broken links, malware, duplicate title tags, duplicate meta description tags and offer suggestions to improve your HTML mark-up.

Who’s Right on the Smartphone OS Mix?
Earlier today, Erick Schonfeld over at Techcrunch wrote up a release from AdMob disclosing Smartphone OS marketshare (measured by impressions). In their report, Admob showed that a monstrous 55% of all smartphone requests came from devices on the iPhone OS, while Android made up 20% and RIM a measly 12%.

Interestingly, earlier today Sean P. Aune posted his regular Mobile Monday report that included data from the SMART report released every month from one of our sponsors Millennial Media, which contained some starkly contrasting data.
In the Millennial Media report, they showed that the iPhone consists of only 33% of monthly impressions, RIM following closely at 31%, and Android at a measly 8%.

Twitter Acquires Analytics Company Smallthought Systems
Twitter announced that it has acquired Smallthought Systems, the creators of Dabble DB, an online database Twitter has used in the past to track and share information about projects internally.
"Every day millions of people use Twitter to create, share and discover information, and as we grow, analytics becomes an increasingly crucial part of improving our service," says Twitter Analytics Lead Kevin Weil.
